The zeppelin came under fire from batteries in Purfleet and Dartford, as well as a Royal Flying Corps scout aircraft overhead.  As this was the first zeppelin to be destroyed over the United Kingdon, the Lord Mayor London, Colonel Sir Charles Wakefield, issued 353 gold medals to servicemen for their part in the action.
