Are Dartford Borough Council set to announce a rise in Council Tax for the coming year?  Certainly, Dartford is not included on the list of over 100 local authorities who are set to freeze or lower their Council Tax this year as announced by Local Government Secretary, Eric Pickles, today.  The General Assembly of the Council (Budget) meeting has been set for Monday 23 February and the agenda for this meeting should be available in the week prior to the meeting.

The Orchard Theatre are looking for actors, singers, dancers and technicians to join them for the Summer Youth Project.  The project is open to all young people between 9 and 19 years old and offers great opportunities for young performers to tread the boards.  Over 100 young people are selected to come together and take part in a process where they will learn, rehearse and perform the musical Oliver.  There is the chance to work with a highly skilled professional creative team, make new friends and have lots of fun learning, rehearsing and performing a musical.  Auditions take place in the Spring and the project takes place in the month of August.  There are opportunities to perform and take on backstage roles too.  Further details from

The agenda for the meeting of DBC’s Scrutiny Committee meeting on Tuesday 17 February has been published.  This includes items on Orchard Theatre Accounts 2013-14 Financial YearPrincess Park Annual Update (sic) and Dartford Marshes.  At a previous meeting of this Committee in July 2014, The Orchard Theatre Director ‘undertook to look into a Premiere Card loyalty scheme for Dartford residents with a discounted membership rate‘.  Hopefully, the Committee will be given an update on this item, which may be more relevant since the recent announcement that DBC has agreed to £180,000 of refurbishments at The Orchard Theatre to improve the experience for theatregoers.
