IN THE NEWS TODAY
Domestic Abuse Consultation – Following the launch of a Home Office consultation on domestic abuse, the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner has launched a consultation to gather local opinion. The Home Office definition of domestic abuse was changed by the Government in March 2013 to also include non-violent behaviour, and the consultation seeks to explore if the law also needs to change to reflect this. Such a change in the law could mean making domestic abuse a specific offence; meaning controlling and coercive behaviour in intimate relationships would be a criminal act. Responses gathered in the Kent consultation will be fed back to the Home Office to inform the national decision-making process. You can take part the consultation at kent-pcc.gov.uk by 3 October 2014.
LOCAL COUNCIL NEWS
Dartford Borough Council
Grants to support Dartford’s communities – DBC is inviting local ‘not for profit’ registered charities and community groups to apply for funding from the Community Grant Scheme 2014. Grants of between £500 and £3,000 are available for local groups to improve the opportunities they offer to Dartford residents. Eligible projects must meet the set criteria and either ‘improve Dartford’s sporting provision or work towards improving club standards through accreditation or training’ or ‘improve, provide or expand services for young people or older people’.
Planning Application received - Land To The South Of Manor Way, Swanscombe. 14/01259/CPO – Consultation on an application for operation of an aggregates recycling facility to accept 150,000pa of construction and demolition waste including a fixed processing plant to utilise certain fractions of the recovered materials in order to produce hydraulically bound materials (HBM). In the supporting statement, ‘full planning permission is being sought to use the site for a 15 year period to accept construction, demolition and excavation materials ….’. Editor’s note: It will be interesting to see how this application develops as the land appears to be within the area set to be covered by the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and, if not actually on the site proposed for the Paramount project, certainly very close.
