Kent County Council have announced that proposals to modernise Kent’s library, registration & archive service have taken a step forward.  Details of the proposal to create a charitable trust to run these services will be discussed at their Growth, Economic Development and Communities Cabinet Committee meeting on Tuesday 16 September.  They have announced that although there is still some work to finalise the proposals, if these are approved at the meeting, a full public consultation will happen later this year.  Further details on the proposal and dates for the public consultation will be given as soon as possible.  The recommendation being put is that ‘The Growth, Economic Development and Communities Cabinet Committee is asked to consider and endorse the proposal to complete further stakeholder engagement, and subsequent to this, initiate consultation on the future delivery of Libraries, Registration and Archive services including our preferred option which is to establish a charitable trust’.  The full details of the proposal can be seen on democracy.kent.gov.uk.
